Alex, thanks for all the engaging -- relationship is what makes progress happen, as I've written about, that goes back billions of years to one-cell organisms merging where all the relating and merging led to us -- and is going on now amongst us. Get it juicier here for sparkles on my appreciation page!
I love the “people” library! And the slow checkout lines. It feels so overwhelming these days, between politics, crime, climate change and poverty. It would be nice to get back to the basics of human interaction.
If we had a Suggestion Box in play, these would be for acting on right now. Pass them along if you know anyplace to pass them to:
1. With how tragic things are in Lahaina, that seemingly has no good to come from it, how about a world project to create the showplace town of all time, a futuristic marvel? It’s glorious Maui, which was beloved by people worldwide, so it’s the whole world’s loss to think of as the world’s project with the world’s best designers. A good use for billionaire money (I advocate no billionaires). And get residents participating in creating the new town: plans would need their approval as the major voice. Make temporary housing, even barracks sort of things so everyone can stay around – with meeting halls and great food, nurturing the community while their model town gets built. Compensate for material losses in comradeship and in creating something so marvelous.
2. I find it a little mesmerizing to think about a posture for Donald Trump where he totally and genuinely throws in the towel. He is abject humility. Something got to him and his whole house of cards collapsed where he became deeply ashamed of himself. It is so real that everyone is touched. Just think about it. I’d see a coach working with him to tune him into total surrender. I’d even let him have some brownie points as a hero in doing this if it led to the healing of the country. (No arguing that he would never do that. Facing what he’s facing, my premise is a light bulb go off? "Omg, prison. Omg, I can’t do that. Omg, I’d do anything.” “Anything?”) What punishment we give him becomes a new question. Personally, I'd let him off. Who cares what happens to him if the world is wonderful?!
Can this substack work as a Suzanne Taylor appreciation page? You're doing great work, Suzanne, keep it up!
