Brilliant. Thanks for breaking this down into doable steps ... your inspiring story makes me think about how I might be more proactive about an issue I care about.
Suzanne, this is great and almost exactly what we have been doing in Washington State's high-seismic zone with CERT (community emergency response team) - I am a node of my own neighborhood and have conducted virtually all of what Susan Curry has done. CERT is generally run on a civil-defense line by the US Military (see an old video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTaxsxe7OKE), but the idea is based on community and neighborly principles, which is why I trained myself and became a node for my own community. Thanks for sharing this!
That video is an awesome resource. Wow! What a great complement to this post, supporting the idea and giving so many details we all should know that could save our lives. Susan, share this with your people and let's all get this circulating widely, it is that valuable to everyone!
This is a very nice idea to help things on a local level. Growing food in the front or backyards could be a project to work on together. However, if the controllers have their way, i.e. WHO gets countries to give them authority to declare pandemics and to issue mandates (i.e. vaccine mandates), humanity will be inescapably trapped by those who wish to eliminate most and enslave the rest and these neighborhood gatherings will disappear down the memory hole. People need to wake up to the realization that humanity has been and is controlled by a gigantic network of criminals (i.e. mafia, cia, nazi/eugenicists, billionaire nihilists). Now, with the revelation that Biden's sons laptop was NOT Russian misinformation but was real. And it is clear that the Democrats knew this, but wanted it covered that month before the presidential election to insure Biden's victory not only indicts them, but makes it clear that they could blackmail Biden with this information and make him a stooge for all their evil machinations. RFK jr. doesn't talk about this and backed Hillery in the past. I would like to believe in him, but really if he is the real thing, he would probably be assassinated, since they love to kill Kennedys. No politician can be trusted, so there is one solution, that is, to restructure all government from vertical, which is so easy to subvert, corrupt, and control (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oilxI6Dgoy8&t=5s) to horizontal which would end politicians and political parties and rely instead on citizen participation and bottom-up direct democracy (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wywMhg604W8). If you agree, spread the message, because most people have never thought of "horizontal governance".
Hey hey hey, this isn't the place for this comment. My post is all about something we all can do. Whatever validity your comment has, it doesn't belong here. In fact, it doesn't belong in any of my body of work, which is all about what we can do here and now and doesn't deal with critiques of how things are and long range ideas for how they could change.
Sorry you feel that way Suzanne. I was suggesting something more powerful perhaps than what you have suggested, though I believe your suggestion is good and important. My comment was more about confronting the root problems that have caused undue suffering for so many centuries. A form of activism would be to spread this message, to make people aware of the option to restructure to horizontal governance and rid ourselves of the plague of politicians and political parties and the fake democracy that dominates.
What has that got to do with a wonderful initiative that shows what we-the-people can do to do that can matter? My premise in other pieces is that the most changeful thing to do is to change our story, where as we think so we act, and I deal with how we can do that now. If you want to promote such a long range possibility that you don't have any perspective on for how it ever could be implemented, bone up on my previous posts so you know what I'm talking about and we can continue on someplace where that conversation would be appropriate.
Yes! Neighborhoods are also my calling. Thanks for sharing your experience and journey with it! I've been canvassing my neighborhood - putting up fliers and sending emails. Just 4 months in now, but the response has been wonderful! While it's not for everyone, most folks really appreciate the organizing to bring people together.
I'm a bit biased but I believe that no matter what kinds of changes you want to see in the world, they all require and often start with relationships - especially relationships with folks around you, and different from you. You're making such a huge difference Suzanne!! Rock on!!
People can click your name to see what a knockout your awesome project is, that has you doing these things. And right on about relationship. It's what evolution is comprised of. Everything advances in relationship. It's the fundamental dynamic. We're long passed when rugged individualism should be running the show.

A perfect comment! It warms my heart.
And here's the CERT "map my neighborhood" exercise, via Washington State's agency website: https://mil.wa.gov/map-your-neighborhood

It’s the easiest way to create community from what’s literally in your backyard It would make people care about each other. It’s a great idea.
Would love to see this takeoff. Everyone talks about missing the old days of neighborly friendship, but nobody does anything about it.
Maybe you give it a try!

Sounds like an old fashioned Tupperware party with a Twist. Great idea. Neighbors unite.
Really! Getting back to some old-fashioned practices when community mattered.

Thanks for sharing your neighborly efforts at successful community organizing.
