Omg, original ideas.
We keep getting analyses of what got us where we are and visions for the world we’d like to be in, but it’s rare to find anyone speaking to what could get us to the land of our dreams. I’m giving a shout-out here to a conversation about things we could do that would make massive changes.
Peter Diamandis, “named by Fortune as one of the ‘World’s 50 Greatest Leaders,’” is talking to Andrew Yang, who we all know, about “fixing America democracy so it actually can solve problems.” They discuss the challenges for modern democracy and potential solutions, including reinventing voting systems, threats from AI in the presidential elections, and Universal Basic Income.
Yang’s reinvention of voting systems is fascinating. I love it. Who would have thought there could be such a different way, but once you hear it you’re hooked. We’d get great candidates that way. The second half is a good listen about UBI, which is on my short list for how to save the world.
This conversation also touches on other major themes we aren’t talking about much. One is purpose, how everyone needs something to live for. Another is community – how we were designed to be engaged with each other.
Diamandis is looking for MOONSHOTS to institute, big things to massively get behind as we did with going to the moon. It’s how he categorizes UBI and Yang’s idea about elections. I’m going to see if my dossier about we-the-people becoming a force falls in that category.
Here’s a fascinating wrinkle on UBI, of lump sums instead of monthly doles! It gives the lie to the idea that money given to the poor gets spent on drugs and alcohol and explains the added value of the lump sums. Another original idea!
A Canadian study gave $7,500 to homeless people. Here’s how they spent it.
I am looking for people who want to toss ideas around on Zoom. And tell any thinking friends to join in here.

2 great ideas.
1. Suzanne, you have championed UBI for a long time. It is finally getting support from other very smart people. Advances in technology are coming at the civilized world faster than most realize and UBI will become recognized as essential in a caring world.
2. Most people despair when they look at the people who govern us. In the first part of the video, we get an intelligent discussion on an alternative where we get better people in politics.
I hope your voice on this “Moonshots” discussion gets a wide circulation
Amazing video, thanks for posting Suzanne
