It continues to be mind boggling that anyone thinks that war and violence is winning:
“The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy. Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it.
“Through violence you may murder the liar, but you cannot murder the lie, nor establish the truth. Through violence you murder the hater, but you do not murder hate. In fact, violence merely increases hate. Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” -Martin Luther King Jr.
What Sy Hersh wrote is an example of what Dr. King was talking about. I hope people read his piece for shocking content like this: "...the need for an immediate ceasefire in a war that cannot be won by Ukraine." Being who he is, he has sources we don't have, like this end to the article: “The war is over. Russia has won. There is no Ukrainian offensive anymore, but the White House and the American media have to keep the lie going. The truth is if the Ukrainian army is ordered to continue the offensive, the army would mutiny. The soldiers aren’t willing to die any more, but this doesn’t fit the B.S. that is being authored by the Biden White House.” I wish we had a robust comment section so we all could chew on that!
What would be best for Ukraine? I'm so confused. How would you repair the damage these wars and hate have created? As far as Black Lives Matters and similar efforts, and people asking my they would loot their own neighborhoods, I once saw a preacher during the riots talking to the news and he said, "hurt people hurt things." That's worth paying attention to.
I'm going to steal that line. I keep saying that in language that's not as good as this. Where so few people have so much and so many don't have enough you get Trump just because he's not the establishment. Take care of everyone with food, shelter, health care, and education, with something like Universal Basic Income, and Trump would be history.
What would be best for Ukraine is a question without a clear answer. I'm not selling Sy Hersh's point of view but I sent this because you wont see it in the media and it should be included in open conversation about what to do.
