Thank you, Suzanne. I would like to be part of this ongoing conversation about changing the collective story, re-visioning what government is for and what humanity really needs right now. At least we could come up with a name of this movement and a "charter"-- a set of values and practices we could all agree on--and get signatures from everyone who buys into this document--sort of like The Earth Charter that was created and publicized back in the 1980's or '90's (and has amounted to....not much). Then, there'd be the problem of getting wide exposure and buy-in by influential organizations.....and then....I guess we'd keep developing and co-creating what to do next.
You are a perfect cohort. So glad you chimed in. Sit tight for more! I’m not so active with you because you deal mostly with therapizing people, but we are great for thinking together!!!!
I was watching a video yesterday of a gentleman in New Zealand just saying how they’re all looking at us and can’t believe what’s happened to our country. Being born in this country, I guess I got a little jaded for what the inspiration of this country was, we are so far away from that right now. Ultimately, everything comes down to money and power, I wish we could live under the old adage, money and power do not buy happiness. Things seem to be getting to a point where hopefully, we can make a change.
I also much appreciate your featuring this Sen. Sanders speech. Same with Marianne's, though Substackers can naturally follow her daily with little effort here. Their approaches and positions overlap and synergize so well, but it's harder to "Feel The Bern" unless one subscribes or searches for his regular YouTube presence and follows his stuff there. I've been wanting to urge more widespread attentive following of him, especially since back when I first saw the vid you feature here. Even in the face of the recent amping up of scary vibes cast at the way-too-few boat-rocking Congressional types, Bernie's still fearlessly telling it like it is as best he can see it, it seems. He's not selling out what's good about being "progressive" when it's obviously needed most. He's been doing some powerful live rallying too, some of which was carried also live and effectively on YouTube. And speaking of spunk, Liz Warren has been doing rallies and such as well, centering stuff like her CFPB, "R.I.P"., if I may say in short. They, and hopefully more and more others, along with the more spiritually oriented savvy "politicians" such as Marianne, will have to inevitably be seen as national treasures, seems to me.
The opposition, although not organized enough to have a voice, is huge, and I think Pep Talks for Humanity, which also would come from people like us and not just from famous figures, would help get action energy into play. Love it if any readers here would turn on their cameras and send me what I could post!
Impressive, Suzanne, for you to have to go through your recent tech difficulties, then seamlessly issue forth such a multi-faceted li'l gem of a NowWhat? post as this. Love the eagles and "fish", each so symoblic and elegant in their appearances here, in their own ways. Great grounding for that deeper non-dual connection of us with Earth and all that it's All part of. Even the simplest animations can be such a great tool. And live nature webcams that can beat being stuck on the ground so far below the action we wouldn't otherwise even know is going on. That 3rd chick must not have made it out of the shell ok...but then there's the other two...
"Aggressive Unity" feels like an amazingly intriguing concept. Need some more essaying and such about the essential elements of that as a focal point of sorts.
Yes I'd like to scheme with you on Zoom.
Well...I think I’ll take Marc’s lead and not just spew out one long comment (but there's so much more to discuss!) ... and return in a bit…
I got "aggressive unity" from Geoffrey Diehl two days ago. I changed my headline -- from Can Death Inspire a Rebirth?-- when I read him talking about the Republicans "trying to pillage every hard-earned social safety net since FDR’s New Deal. These facts require us to act in aggressive unity." For everyone who hasn't taken my urging to subscribe to Geoffrey, my head-hero among the degrowth people, this is the must-read, comprehensive piece it came from:
Degrowth: Sanity in Spiraling Chaos
Sheer stupidity and malice is killing us. Degrowth is the united plan we need.
I believe it is about the story we are telling ourselves or can tell ourselves. We are always telling stories that’s what life is and what it is to be a human to look to see to try to figure out to share to explain we are trying to create a new story myth about planet Earth and humanity. It’s hard and lining people up is even harder as you Suzanne have come to know so deeply and profoundly. I love you. I support you. I get it. I agree. I’m Here Trying my best to create my own personal story a new.
You are on it for my sense of our best bet to save ourselves. If we see ourselves as sacred creatures in a sacred universe we create a beautiful world. It's like we're in a schoolhouse, learning the next body of work in our curriculum where we are becoming the loving creatures it's in our blueprint to become.
Exactly! The main unknowns now, for those of us mainly "ready" to live in that world, are 'how many of us will it take doing what?; what is that tipping point? And how to attract enough of those needed to reach there anytime soon enough?' Of course, in a sense it'll never be too late to live that way, but if we're also in it to minimize suffering and do that other good stuff, that's where it gets more complicated...
...So on the other hand, there are movements afoot driving home hard some very different points. Especially the one claiming that our all-too-limited energies would be a better bet being spent elsewhere, meaning more of a turning away from the political/industrial-machine-sphere entirely. Instead we'd be way wiser to deploy that long-awaited new paradigm, weaving together a desperately needed different way forward and NOW, as otherwise it'll probably be too late. This zone of debate is one of the most controversial, for sure. Realistically I see the inevitablility of both types of movements being needed, for starters because it's simply how it's happening and likely to continue to, regardless. But back to the leaders on the first hand...
Their potential as "progressives", depending partly on what the people are ready for, holds great promise as an answer to the fast-growing questions around 'Where's the Democratic Leadership when we need it most?!' Well let's face it, after some telling years now, that "revolution" has yet to get off the runway enough to be likely to reach effective velocity, at this rate. But now the rate is exponentially increasing. Millions more will hopefully be able to heed the call to help power the evolution needed. Power it with...hmm...I can't think of a better term for now than aggressive unity.
At some point it gets hot enough that water in the pot on the burner boils. If some good ideas have been developed they could go into play. Or who knows what? So far the best to do for everyone is to stay informed and ready and respond to what comes on your path. It's out of all of that the new will come. An aggressive unity. Somehow.
I do think Democratic "party" is an empty idea. Are there pows pows? Not that I know of. Are people who have been in power putting their heads together? I don't think so. I always vote Democrat but that's all. I don't go to any meetings. There aren't any. Where is the party "to belong to?" It only looks like there is when a strong president plants a flag that everyone rallies around. I wonder if Marianne Williamson had gotten the chair of DNC, although this isn't a policy-formulating body, since nothing else is I bet she would have done some formulating!!!
Well I hope she and Bernie and Liz et al are looking at working more together somehow, as they ARE definitely all doing some serious mobilizing. And that would be a key part of the coalition…….
Trump has distilled the worst of the worst not only in American society, but in our supposed representatives who have abandoned all pretense of serving the people in their districts. By the time he is overthrown, and he will be, we will only have shreds of the government that was and maybe there is some promise in that. If our constitution and national economy can so easily be taken over by such a lizard brain man financed by America’s billionaires and Oligarchs, possibly it is time to seriously consider a more modern system of governance and a more just and fair economic system. Is the American form of capitalism worth saving? This is a serious discussion worth having.
We need a new model for government and economics. A model called Economic Democracy is the best I have found so far. For governance the Progressive Utilization Theory has a novel approach. Meanwhile Trump and the Oligarchs are destroying our Economic system and our Constitution. We will need to create and implement better systems to take us into the 21st Century.
To research the above systems try ChatGPT or Wikipedia, they are not 100% correct, but they give reasonable summaries.
The United Sates is going through change and transformation and that is always difficult. This is an auspicious time. We have entered into the first stage of transformation, what the ancient Greeks labeled as “Apocalypse” or "the uncovering of that which was hidden often accompanied with a sense of revelation.” After we get past our feelings of fear and helplessness, the door opens to meaningful change.
When the Soviet Union fell, no one had thought out a better system to replace it. Let us not find ourselves in that same situation. Below is a link to a Substack article about little known events that occurred in the Russian Far East in the early 1990s, events that offer an important perspective on what’s required during a time of system change — that is, a perspective on what will be required to transition from capitalism to a life-centered society.
Hello Marc -- Responding here to your three posts, you are envisioning what could replace capitalism, but to each their own and my track is what to do now to get to where we'd be able to install anything new. How can we unite as a force that can have influence? For those who are drawn to how a new system could operate, the link you gave looks very good.
I’ve given a heads-up to pay attention to video I posted of Roman Krznaric (at 16:54 -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pctnBGsIa0I), for what he says regarding the conditions for a massive system-collapse, like the Berlin Wall. One element is new ideas waiting in the wings. You are dealing with what would fill that bill.

I think some point will come when it's just too much. The center won't be able to hold. What then? It's a cliffhanger...

From your lips to god’s ear as they say. Nobody is seriously working together on our side.
