We need to get serious about shaking up the world. We aren’t even trying.
Look, one massive something would get everyone rethinking. The classic example is if non-human intelligence were shown to exist. You know, like UFOs are not us. That’s not something we can make happen, but what would be? Come on, this isn’t impossible. What could it be? We need to be inventive.
My essay contest, about how the world “got saved,” got me thinking. With money prizes being key to getting essays written, where writing them activated a lot of people who had been feeling helpless, I’d put out more money to get essays to flood the net. But what if millions responded? Could writing essays become a thing to do with no money offered? Or could a billionaire fund a judging operation??? Come on, think with me.
It’s the tips of icebergs when we deal with global warming, wars, Republicans, on and on. But, to significantly change things we have to deal with what’s under their surfaces. By my lights, what’s causal to all our dysfunction, that we could be addressing, is how we see ourselves, where we are ripe for transcending the rugged individualism that got us our industrial world. Here’s my group of Substacks about our creation story, and how updating it would provide a container for us as one humanity protecting our home.
