Funding for a Future
Using my savings and how a special billionaire could do so much more
If I am a barometer, there’s a fury in the land from what’s being inflicted by a cruel, slothful, soulless being who is remaking America in his image. It’s driving us to thinking more daring thoughts about what to do. Evolution doesn’t have a leader or a plan to follow, but moves from what’s in the air, and our air being so thick with misery could get humanity onto a more evolved path.
Since I'd rather deal with saving the world than vacationing in it, my latest daring move is an invite to submit ideas for what I’m calling Funding for a Future:
From interest I get on investments, especially from one, decades ago, that was a bonanza, I get enough income to live very nicely, so I'm okay about using most of my savings for a rainy day, since things seem torrential now. Anyone who sends me something will get as much conversation about its viability as the suggestion warrants. My money is lifeless in the bank and my assets will do fine by my beautiful kids, so using this money I’ve saved for what’s alive, in this last act of my drama on planet Earth seems to me like good thinking.
I’ll put out even more if I get back the goodly amount I loaned to residents in my house twenty years ago, who are talking to me about repaying now. Then, "the check was in the mail” that would repay me for loaning Jon Sperry’s and Ivana Massetti enough to tide them over till they got a payment for a movie they were going to make, but it never came. Since some ships have come in and there’s a new movie they’re making, I hope they’ll create a bigger pot by repaying me now. Any encouragement to them would be swell. They have large social media presences, or in a comment here.
And here’s an off-the-wall way to possibly get much more help for our hurting country. It would turn lemons into lemonade over a neighbor who won’t cut her bushes that obscure my view. She’s been fined twice for violating laws about that, but L.A. hasn’t enforced vegetation height limits since Covid. Here’s the difference between not having a view and having one:
Lately, neighbor Lara has been in society news on the arm of the billionaire president of Estée Lauder, so this is my bright idea. This is a communication, via the Estée Lauder website, I sent to President William Lauder.
Hello, from the house above Lara’s. I’m contacting you because I have a wild thought, as suited to these wild times. With the world at such a precipice, I see a way for you to do something that could save us. She and I struggle when Lara’s bushes grow tall enough to block my view, and it would be a story for the ages if the contention with Lara, in leading me to you, got a life-saving thing to happen.
What I can see you doing is funding an ad campaign: Make People Great Again. It would be to inspire everyone to be heroic in making this the beautiful world it can be. Just think of wars ending and humanity more like a family. Working together would give us our best chance for the future, especially in light of how nature is coming at us so seriously and so fast, and, via our genius at advertising, humanity could be sold on doing that.

Can we talk?
I haven’t gotten any response. What to do?
For an update on what I’ve been thinking, these are typical of comments I’ve been making:
I have an idea. Have Jimmy Kimmel tape his monologue every night and get every talk show that isn’t right-wing to run it as their opener. It would be strength in numbers, where all of them would have to be taken down, and wouldn’t that be a conundrum for our fascistic leaders. Let’s get feisty!!!!
What to do? First, let's get everyone to understand the trouble we are in. If everyone understood that overshoot is about to swallow up humanity, and it's their life or death, it could end wars and get cooperation.
I want to popularize the idea of creating a coalition of let's say People for the Good, so that directives get acted on by the millions of signatories. We're good at documenting the horrors we are being subjected to, but we are light on dealing with organizing to do anything to deal with them.
A new idea of mine is for a coup to install a presidential team: Heather Cox Richardson, Joyce Vance, Anne Applebaum, and Marianne Williamson. Oh, what a heavenly foursome that would be! Just picture such warm, smart, human-loving human beings leading our way. I could see them issuing a statement that they are taking charge, and the relief that would be, to where so many millions would be on the streets in Washington when their statement would be made public that they couldn’t be thwarted. And we could turn our lives into being good times!
Omg, a civilization modeled after an ignoramus. That someone so cruel and tasteless and boorish is redoing my country is like living in a South Park episode. What are we doing? Why are we operating by the rules of law-abiding societies when Trump isn't playing by them?
The deeper we go into destruction, the more clarity we get about how the world works and the more that people get activated to change things. It's like a giant race between good and evil. That could be the tale future historians will tell, if good wins.
Critical category -- fiddling while Earth burns. We needed all hands on deck to deal with averting an apocalypse from rapidly-moving overshoot where we are destroying what sustains life on the planet. Omg, what to do about needing to be racing forward when the gates are all closed??????
The passivity of people of stature, who could oppose Trump and lead a movement to get rid of him, is astonishing to me. It could be something about the universe being the master planner, where it delivered Trump to make things so intolerable that it activated ordinary blokes to pay attention to getting off the deadly path we were on long before Trump came along.
For people who are deeply knowledgeable and deeply alarmed about collapse, who are struggling to get humanity tuned into their reports, I’m dreaming up a way they could work together to wake up the world to our meta-crisis.
In case you opened last week’s after a link went offline during the week, here‘s Inside the Intelligence. It shaped my life and could help others see straight, so I’d love people to have a look.
I urge you to have a look at comments I’ve made in Substack Notes to get immersed in the point of view I argue for.
Suzanne Taylor’s Now What? is looking to a revolution. You could say an evolution, to a next phase of consciousness where we act from our interconnection as one humanity. Please help get it seen.

Suzanne, is your money in a credit union or in a bank?
Credit unions invest in their communities while banks invest in many things, including the military industrial complex, the fossil fuel industry and lots of other unsavoury things.
I've always made a point of putting my money in a credit union where it will be more aligned with my values.
That's my suggestion.
Suzanne, love your generou$ idea. I'm doing something similar on a much, much smaller scale. Is there a snail mail address where I can send a packet of information about my idea? I need connections. I'm almost 70, a retired waste reduction educator who was coordinator for a great program way back in the day when waste reduction/recycling was about respect for workers, markets, and the planet. Our program was about building community, motivating people to give back. My (outdated) website, www.WasteReductionResources.com. Thanks Suzanne. Louise Mann
