On to the deeper issues that gave rise to Trump. Jeffrey D. Sachs is one of our political grown-ups. He’s not on Substack, but when Kathleen McCroskey sent Ending Israel’s War on Peace, all I could think of was how it reflects our time of might making right and fighting over who owns what. Hordes dead over who owns what. Kathleen wrote a critique of how Sachs would handle things that pushed around the same surface stuff to where it all took my breath away. Everything about matter. Nothing about soul.

What a hump to get over.

How many of us are strangers in a strange land, at the apex of might-makes-right in humanity’s evolution, where I can’t shake the idea that somehow the intelligence of the universe is pushing everyone to become devoted to each other and this land we love? You know, like in fires and floods. That way. Keeping my eye on that lets me keep going.

We could be at the crossover point, where one thing in the way is our aversion to rocking a boat that’s still managing to float. What can tune everyone into the urgency of getting humanity running on caring? From money running the world, it has to run on love now.

We can’t plan. All we can do now is poke. A natural evolution. Poking before planning.

My hundred-percenter, left with me from my dad asking about the other 2 points when I’d come home from school with a 98, keeps reminding me of the possibility that all it could take to get humanity to be hundred-percenting is a good idea! Keep thinking.

I’ve written before about four years in the late ‘70, when the Human Potential Movement was sizzly and I was with the Wizard doing ELF Enterprises Unlimiting. ELF stood for Enlightenment, Love, and Fun; the motto was Put the elf back in self; and the Wizard and I were Mr. and Mrs. Elfinself. It was a different time.

He ran the San Francisco headquarters of AHP, the Association for Humanistic Psychology, an umbrella for new ways to understand ourselves that I’d gotten immersed in. I’d stopped making TV commercials and painting pictures, thinking the world needed more of what was exciting me, and, when I applied to AHP to produce a conference to connect up L.A. new-agers, the Wizard gave me the assignment. Working with him long distance got him leaving his job, moving in with me, and us creating ELF as a playground for the forward-thinking people I’d connected to.

That spirit of curiosity and adventure and camaraderie ended in the early ‘80s, when a succession of pyramid schemes in Los Angeles got people focused on money instead of on each other.

After a long stretch of money gaming the government shut them all down, and by then the vibe in L.A. had changed. Many people who thought they were going to get rich had lost their money, and very few had made any. Kind of like what’s going on now, where the math of the notorious pyramid schemes people keep falling for matches it – half the people lose everything, a largish band breaks even, a little band does decently well, a very small top (look to the starters) makes a killing.

Ram Dass was in the little starter group, called Circle of Gold, that spread throughout the new age world thanks to his vouching for sending $100 in the mail. When it was over, he apologized for luring everyone in by naively saying it was going to fund everyone’s dreams. It had gone from $100 to $1000 in the mail, and then it became house parties all over the city to pass money around, until a photo of a storefront with lines around the block for money dealings was on the front page of the L.A. Times. Then, the authorities shut everything down. All the new age projects, mine and others, had folded by then, and nothing ever replaced them. There’s not even any thinking, in any public way, going on in Los Angeles.

The foundations have been shaken. Old views, values, and practices are being overturned. And, as the dust settles, a common awareness is emerging. We find ourselves responsible for our lives to a degree we didn’t realize we were before. And, as we discover our identities to be replications of the universe’s supreme consciousness, we find a power we didn’t know we possessed. To be cause, not effect – not victim.

Life need not be lived as if we were pawns in a larger game, but rather as designers of the game. Through this awareness, life becomes an opportunity – an invitation – to create. And to play.

This arts festival was before the Wizard moved in, while I was finding all the wide-eyed people in Los Angeles. In 1976, I talked the director into including programs about the Art of Living, and I produced 23 showcases for different new age modalities. Most of my events were in a Frank Lloyd Wright masterpiece the mayor uses for receptions. Trucks of oranges would pull up, and there were lines for maybe 8 juicers to make your own glassfuls. I once had to take my 9-year-old for stitches when she cut herself instead of an orange. Let’s see what comment daughter Jamie makes on this!

Here’s a little addendum about this project. That Festival went on for several years. Produced by a sort of hippy type young arts enthusiast, it was in the heart of the city, between the rich and the poor. It was just there. No tickets. No formality. Nothing to sell. Plenty of parking. No charge for anything. Just come, wander around, several stages going at once, just take a seat. The program got worked-up all year, for hundreds of groups and acts that qualified for it, and people of all walks came from everywhere. It was L. A. as a village. You belonged to something. It was wonderful. We have not a shred of that now. I am just saying.

How’s about we get serious about you going down in history as a hero? You must know that’s dead in the water now, even if it was alive before the attack on Iran. You’ve thrown the whole world into a tailspin. What if you could reverse that? You, single-handedly? Unless people die of shock from you issuing something like this, this could be a win for you and humanity.

Dearest Humanity,

Have I ever screwed up. My dream, that got me to make bold moves, was that we were going to enter a new era, where governments that made it terrible for their people, like Iran, would be a thing of the past, and the world would be a place for everyone to thrive. We are in such difficulty now that it has opened my eyes, as tragedy will do, to how I should be encouraging what’s good and leave countries with oppressive regimes alone.

Blinded by how problematic the regime in Iran was, I didn’t realize they would be able to ward off my grand plan. I am so sorry I misjudged that. And that I’d let people go who would have given me better advice than those I selected for my administration, with the idea that functioning like a family could get all Americans feeling that way.

That was a big mistake. My appointees were not as well-informed as they needed to be, so I was operating blind, innocent of any idea of the trouble Bibi had involved me in. Oh, Bibi Bibi, Bibi. It’s a one-world system, and your idea that bombing Lebanon, for a different reason than you had for attacking Iran, was so insane after our ceasefire agreement that you can get no more financial support from the U.S. And, Bibi, maybe you too would apologize.

Actually, how about we issue a joint apology and promise an end to aggression against Iran, with our only caveat still holding, for them not to have a nuclear program?

Everybody talks about Trump, but how about what it would be like to be him? I could see it as a uniting exercise, where many people write their versions that would give us insight into how anyone could be so repulsive. I’d see comical ones, too — even for Saturday Night Live. Here’s mine.

Getting into Donald’s Head Could this be his lizard brain speaking?

“The big box I’m in is to win. That’s really all I see. Everything goes on the gameboard of how I come out on top. It’s just the way I am.

“You know about telling a big enough lie? That sounds so tame. I don’t evaluate based on lies and truth. It’s not my objective. And I do see how well it works to have the lies get bigger and bigger.

“My objective is to win. I’m off the charts in that regard. I don’t even really know what love is. But to be honest, it doesn’t matter to me. It would get in my way. And I see the principles of fairness, but they create pawns for me, little people as per my game, to be swatted away. And I can’t get too stirred up by those apocalyptic things, since they don’t figure to kick in while I’m still here.

“I want whatever I want when I want it. Even that isn’t the biggest truth. Winning is even bigger. What is that about me? It just is. Like I have skin. Growing up, the winning thing kicked in. It just was.

“I’ve gotten so good at it. It gets easier and easier, where I’m kind of riffing in it now. I’m saying weird things that I’m letting myself do stream of consciousness, or some stream of something, and I stay excited seeing the fuss I stir up in the newspapers and on TV, where I am omnipresent. Oh god, it is so sweet.

“You know, you only live once, and to just keep slobbering along as a winner suits me fine.”

Understanding is spreading that after we get beyond Trump we need to not return to what had us headed for disaster. But how, without having visionary leadership, can anything radically new come into play?

And, even now, there is something insane about allowing him even one more day in office. Aren’t there any adults in Washington? Take that man to a psychiatric hospital. And then, in the face of the endangerment of the world he leaves in shambles, maybe we’d have a little miracle where, as happens in fires and floods, everybody would decide to work together to get the country moving. Everyone in the non-evil majority of humanity would be relieved, so why oh why aren’t we talking about getting him gone NOW? Not for the sake of the Democrats, but for Life!

My plan-A, presuming we make it past today, would be to bribe him so he fires his hires before he and Vance resign. I make that case here. It could save his face if his physician diagnosed a sleep ailment that impelled him to nobly sacrifice and give up the position he had been so honored to hold. Before you say he’d never give up his office, remember jail is beckoning when his term is up. And, with his miscalculation about Iran I think he knows he’s lost any glory he thought he was in line for. How to get a national conversation going pronto about what bribes might do it? That would be good energy for us!

In that vein, look at us. We are beyond fury at Trump. But if we were all winking at each other for getting him to agree to leave, what good energy for the road ahead that would be!

Recently I’ve connected up some writers I’ve cross-posted to you and written about in my posts, who have visionary ideas for how our different world could run. In the over-riding energeticof starting to think together, they are comparing notes. One of them, Ernesto Van Peborgh, knocked me out again this last week with what I wish I could make required reading. It’s about how, in the big picture, the running of the world should be a function of the ultimate purpose of humanity, which is to enhance the workability of the living system we are in.

The buzz phrase for what an enlightened humanity would be dealing with has gone from the green revolution to regenerative design. But, slow down, says Ernesto, to consider the different way of evaluating that regenerative design demands. Vital is insurance to not just to cover physical losses but having to consider risk from the multiple parameters our living systems depend on. What’s bolded in these excerpts, that I’ve strung together here, was in the original.

Regenerative Design in a Time of Collapse
Why Regenerative Design May Become the Hidden Operating Language of Finance

There is a point at which a word begins to lose force not because it is wrong, but because it begins circulating faster than it is understood.

Regenerative design today sometimes approaches that threshold.

Often it arrives wrapped in a moral tone, as though regeneration were simply sustainability made more ambitious: less damage, more repair, a more elegant ecological intention.

But what gives regenerative design its growing relevance is not primarily moral ambition. Something more structural is pressing beneath it.

The present moment resists the ordinary language of crisis.

Crisis suggests interruption, a disturbance after which prior arrangements may return.

What seems to be unfolding now resembles something slower and more difficult: a passage in which assumptions that once made entire systems intelligible no longer metabolize the complexity they themselves helped generate.

Hidden inside that success was a simplification so deep it became almost invisible: the assumption that systems remain governable when treated as objects, that complexity eventually yields if enough technical intelligence is applied.

And yet most of what sustains life never behaved that way.

A forest is not assembled.

Regenerative design is often misunderstood as an advanced form of sustainability.

It is not.

Sustainability asks:
How do we reduce damage?

Regenerative design asks something far more demanding:
How do we participate in processes that increase life’s capacity to evolve?

It increasingly resonates with something quantum thought intuited long ago: that nothing exists independently; everything participates in everything else. Not metaphorically. Structurally. Every actor affects and is affected. Every intervention enters a field of reciprocal consequences. Every human system is nested inside larger systems that do not negotiate with ideology.

A landscape may continue producing while fertility weakens quietly below ground.

A financial system may continue generating returns while detaching itself from ecological conditions it rarely needed to name.

A political order may preserve procedures long after trust and legitimacy begin thinning beneath them.

From a distance everything may still appear functional.

But function and vitality are not interchangeable.

A whole is not merely a successful assembly of parts. It is a condition in which relationships generate enough coherence for vitality, resilience, viability, and developmental potential to continue through changing conditions.

A living whole does not remain whole because it resists change.

It remains whole because change can move through it without immediately breaking its coherence.

Financial sophistication expanded while leaning on conditions it did not need to describe.

That arrangement holds only while invisible infrastructure remains stable.

The moment it begins to fail, it becomes visible very quickly.

That is increasingly what is happening.

Insurance now encounters hydrological instability not as background noise but as altered insurability.

Agricultural finance cannot evaluate future yield without eventually confronting nitrogen dependence, water retention, soil structure, and exposure to energy shocks.

Biological conditions are ceasing to remain external to economic continuity.

And finance faces a difficulty for which its classical language remains incomplete.

It understands scarcity, volatility, discounting, expected returns, correlation, optionality.

What it has not fully learned to interpret is living coherence.

This is where regenerative design enters finance not as ethics, but as interpretive necessity.

Because regenerative design offers something increasingly difficult to replace: a way of reading whether a system is gaining or losing the capacity to remain viable through time.

The strategic question shifts almost quietly.

Not only what produces return.

But what remains coherent under pressure.

Another word enters, often avoided because it still sounds excessive: collapse.

Yet collapse is rarely theatrical.

More often it begins before language fully catches it — in the subtle loss of coherence, in the growing difficulty of maintaining arrangements that for a long time seemed almost natural: supply systems that no longer stabilize easily, institutions that continue operating while trust thins, landscapes that still produce while losing the invisible depth that once made production resilient.

Things remain in place.

But they begin to require more effort, more correction, more compensation, more energy simply to continue resembling what they were.

That is why hospice may offer a more precise image than catastrophe.

When older certainties weaken one begins to notice what had remained hidden beneath them.

The quiet intelligence of living systems.

The patience with which a watershed reorganizes itself when pressure recedes.

The way degraded soil, given time and reciprocity, begins again to breathe.

The way relationships, once restored, generate possibilities no plan could fully predict.

Perhaps that is one of the least understood dimensions of regenerative work.

It is not only the design of what should come next.

It is the discipline of staying attentive enough to recognize where life is already trying to return, even if weakly, even if unevenly, even if still surrounded by structures that belong to another logic.

Regenerative design matters now far beyond architecture, agriculture, or environmental language.

Because more and more, what is being asked of us is not simply how to improve systems.

It is whether we still know how to participate in processes larger than our own designs.

Life does not hurry when it rebuilds coherence.

It does not argue.

It does not announce itself.

Very often it begins below visibility, long before institutions learn how to name what has already started.

“The trance that keeps us from seeing this is powerful. But it has been broken before. Every paradigm that once seemed like reality itself — the divine right of kings, the natural inferiority of women, the Earth at the center of the universe — turned out to be a myth that was shattered. The story of TINA — There Is No Alternative — is the defining myth of our moment. The first act of system change is to stop believing it.”

You’d think every way to make art has been done, but there are endless new ones. To send you out on a high, this is an inspiration for what extraordinary things a human being can do: “Doctors believed that Woody Brown would never be able to speak or process language. He went to graduate school and is publishing his debut novel.” I found this in one of my Dave Pell’s NextDraft don’t-miss compilations of bests of the day, that are delivered by an extraordinarily sharp and witty curator. Progress is two steps forward one step back. We’re a learning species. Try this, try that, as we flesh out our design capacity to be a cooperative family. The horrors of slavery morphed to gay and transgender abuses, but there also has been a steady stream of humanity getting more rights and becoming more equal. That is until this aberration of a government. But we are on fire now, with ever growing fury about how our decency is being coopted. And that could be what pushes us into the deep dive to create a system that save our species.

Omg, what it is taking get us to deal with Earth’s finite supply of what maintains our world. People don’t want to confront the seriousness of using up our resources. And, although fires and floods are more intense than ever, they still are being explained away as normal weather fluctuations. But look at what Geoffrey Deihl says about immanent crashes. Why doesn’t everybody know this? How come I’m just learning it from Geoffrey, my go-to soulful expert on global warming and overshoot. Subscribe to him to stay informed.

One thing that remains, through the thick and the thin of things, is how being grounded in reality gives us our best chance for the future. I’ve become convinced we don’t have solutions for what can take our civilization down, but there’s one thing we haven’t tried. That is to unite humanity, getting all hands on deck looking for new ways to do things, and dealing with what’s best to do if nothing comes along that lets us continue as is.

For new subscribers who took up a recommendation and might wonder what’s going on here, I’m looking for that family of humanity idea to come into play, where the world would go from being oppositional to being cooperative and everyone would take pride tending to Earth.

I fell into a crack between worlds. My mother, who entered NYU at 15 and in her senior year was the president of all the women, was a dancer and a poet. She traded herself in to be a housewife. She wrote rhymes for friends’ birthdays and took cha cha lessons with my dad, where people would turn to look at how fetching she was on the country club dance floor. My dad was a heroic type as a successful lawyer, and her role was to take care of us and our house. So, even though I graduated from NYU Phi Beta Kappa and summa cum laude, I played housewife until I was 35, when, as a single mom with three little girls, what I had to serve my future was the devotion to excellence that had gotten me my academic honors.

The Human Potential Movement was in its early stages when I got single and I went from living in Hollywood glitz to roaming around in my inner self. In 1988, I collected twelve calls to humanity, starting in 1975, that I’d written when I’d gotten new insights. After thinking I’d dealt with different content each time, I was startled by how they all said the same thing, as kind of cheerleads for humanity. They reminded me of my three years as a cheerleader, when I loved getting excited for my school’s team. Welcome to my destiny as an enthusiast, which is derived from en theos, that’s Greek for the god within.

This is the 1975 earliest of my Pep Talks for Humanity, which is what they all are. I’ll add the others to my next posts. I don’t remember being that wise, so they seem like some other team-spirited person encouraging me. I’ve pictured Pep Talks flooding the net, and hopefully you’ll be inspired to write yours! This Is what will bring Trump down: “He didn’t call the police when he saw those teenagers. He didn’t try to protect them. He didn’t sound the alarm or speak up. He walked out of the room and stayed silent. For years.”

And here you are, this past week, with escalating responses to how dangerous things are:

Donald Trump is an absolute disaster: “How vulnerable the entire planet is with someone like him in charge; a man with no plan, no clarity, no impulse control, and no business being anywhere near the decisions that determine whether people live or die.”

The President of the United States is afraid: “Trump’s responses did not appear to be from a man burdened by the gravity of leading a nation at war, but rather from a man entertained by it. When asked about U.S. strikes on the island, Iran’s most critical oil hub, his reply was, ‘We totally demolished Kharg Island, but we may hit it a few more times, just for fun.’... When the President of the United States says he might drop bombs ‘for fun,’ make sure everyone you know hears about it.”

Trump is the captain of a sinking ship: “We are living through a pivotal moment for our country, and my goal is to reach as many people as possible with clear, factual information about what is happening. The more people who understand what is unfolding, the better chance we have to push back against chaos, cruelty, and corruption ahead of the midterms.”

Trump doesn’t want us to know how bad he’s losing: Suzanne, here. Heather, you have astonishing insight into how Trump maneuvers, that’s on super-display here. It’s as per this comment you got: “This is the worst, the clearest, and most frightening report…my jaw dropped…my hands shaking with anger.”

One way we differ is that I don’t look to the elections. Even if we have a Democratic victory, we might still be under the spell of the oligarchy. And, given our polycrisis time matters, and Iran creates a real urgency now.

Heather, can we start something? With all Trump’s roads marked No Exit, my game worth playing would be to come up with what could get him to fire all his hires and resign.

He doesn’t relish the job. It’s gotten to where he can’t stay awake for it, so maintaining even the illusion of competence is out his window. But what he does relish is riches. We would make it worth his while. Let him keep all his grift, give him freedom from prosecution, and what else? Do we care if he becomes the richest person in the world as long as he isn’t in office? Let him develop a desert somewhere. Sweeten our deal by making him the first recipient of the Save Humanity Award, in this case for courageously resigning in the face of some physical problem that’s newly diagnosed – a sleep disorder would do it -- so he saves face. A clincher, that gives him points in the adulation department, could be a state dinner in his honor. Just keep our eyes on the prize.

Heather, like Tinker to Evers to Chance, how about Taylor to Reese to someone with more outreach than even you have, that could continue on in that way, rippling out till everyone would be thinking together, sort of. A band of thinking. Sounds like something to me.

Here we are, with us in the majority now, plus all the intelligent thinking is coming from us. Now, how to get our siloed selves to be a force? Maybe it’s this way. Making up our own universal chain of command.

I have you named in my recent Open Letter to collapse-savvy people, and the update on that is that a few on that list, who have maps for possible futures, are looking at each other’s. Let’s see what that stimulates.

One of them, an especially comprehensive, masterful job by Ernesto Van Peborgh, got me thinking about how to get it seen, and I’m waiting to hear back from him to this: “How about enrolling TED? That could be the stage for all of it, however you carve it up for presentation. TED could get excited about its saving-the-world aspect, and, as they are changing leadership,your material could be in a launch for their new regime that would be splashy enough for you to get media attention so you could inspire the world with the way of being we must take on.”

How unreal this all is. It defies comparison. Nothing like this ever anywhere. A comic book sort of drama that could come off the page to actually detonate humanity. It calls to mind the classic Jack Benny line when a robber says, “Your money or your life,” and Benny takes a long pause before he says, “I’m thinking.”

It is perilous:

(This is from Geoffrey Deihl’s brilliant rundown of what’s going on. Goeffrey is my head hero in the collapse world, and I highly recommend that everyone subscribe to his Sane Thoughts for Insane Times to stay on the edge of where we are.)

If we freed Trump from prosecution for past deeds, let him keep all his grift, and threw in making him the first recipient of the Behavior that Saved the World medal, to be awarded at a dinner in his honor, couldn’t that perhaps get him to fire all his hires and resign? Do we care if he even becomes the richest person in the world, if that gets him gone?

A way to go that’s chancier would be to make him an irresistible offer to submit to a course of mind-bending therapy. Even one dose of MDMA could give him a jolt of what it feels like to love. Omg, Trump wakes up would be a story for the ages!!!

Or we could bypass him. I’ve been posting this: How about a coup to install a presidential team? Let’s say Heather Cox Richardson, Joyce Vance, Anne Applebaum, Michelle Obama, and Marianne Williamson. Among other great women, I follow them, and it could be more or less than five. Just picture such warm, intelligent, human-loving human beings leading the way. If they state that they are taking charge, so many millions would flood Washington’s streets I bet they couldn’t be thwarted.

Now, picture a future where the devastation that’s happening now cleared the way for a cooperative civilization to emerge. That idea is in the air now. It’s a good one to live into. Poking around Substack last week, there wereexpressions of it like these:

But just because our world is breaking apart doesn’t mean it’s the end of the world. Our planetary crucible offers a real-time, whole-planet rite of passage or trial by ordeal. It’s an initiation for each of us and for the collective human soul. This liminal ceremony for a small planet—a ceremony you can’t not be in—demands a remembering of our place in the larger ecology of things and a reimagining of the meaning of humanness.

I hope these excerpts from what’s not just big, but BIG, will intrigue you enough to read this whole piece. It is the future. It is shocking. It is important.

If you tried ChatGPT in 2023 or early 2024 and thought “this makes stuff up” or “this isn’t that impressive,” you were right. Those early versions were genuinely limited. They hallucinated. They confidently said things that were nonsense.

That was two years ago. In AI time, that is ancient history.

In 2022, AI couldn’t do basic arithmetic reliably. It would confidently tell you that 7 x 8 = 54.

By 2023, it could pass the bar exam.

By 2024, it could write working software and explain graduate-level science.

By late 2025, some of the best engineers in the world said they had handed over most of their coding work to AI.

On February 5th, 2026, new models arrived that made everything before them feel like a different era.

The models available today are unrecognizable from what existed even six months ago. The debate about whether AI is “really getting better” or “hitting a wall” is over. It’s done. Anyone still making that argument either hasn’t used the current models, has an incentive to downplay what’s happening, or is evaluating based on an experience from 2024. The gap between public perception and current reality is now enormous, and that gap is dangerous...because it’s preventing people from preparing.

Most people are using the free version of AI tools. Judging AI based on free-tier ChatGPT is like evaluating the state of smartphones by using a flip phone. The people paying for the best tools, and using them daily for real work, know what’s coming.

The next two to five years are going to be disorienting in ways most people aren’t prepared for. The people who will come out of this best are the ones who start engaging now — not with fear, but with curiosity and a sense of urgency.

Also, please read James Fallows about Iran, for what he’s “learned in 45 years of interviewing experts about peace and war, and how it applies to the tumult of these past nine days,” where comments say this is his most important piece. A don’t-miss old-school journalist, he’s another special person I urge everyone to subscribe to. If Trump read this, I even could see him understanding the peril he has put the world in.

I have a proposal for you. The State of the Union spectacle, with half the legislators floated off to la la land, clapping two hours nonstop for a naked emperor, was too much for me. Donald Trump is delusional, and, imperfect as I am, I want to do more.

You all know what’s going on with collapse. I say to wise humanity up to that. If we knew a major asteroid was going to hit us in a few years, everyone would be looking for how avert it. Now, here, with an asteroid called overshoot getting so close that the pebbles that precede it already are hurting us, the question I’m posing is how to get the seriousness of what’s happening across to humanity. Great excitement accompanies great purpose, like when we were getting ourselves to the moon, and that enthusiasm could be here again with everybody working up a new operating system for Earth.

For us to be able to scheme together, I’ve opened a Substack Chat. Please say something there about this invite. Would getting humanity wised up to the danger we are in be your top to-do? I have other ideas to talk about, too.

Things changed with Covid. I’d had teams for all the projects, and for the first time I was solo. So, three years ago, I started this Substack. That got me engaged with the big world, still with that passion for connecting. Now it’s in quest of getting the family of humanity to click in.

I am so glad I have you to talk to, where making sense to you helps me make sense to myself. And I so want it to be worth your precious time, like I expect Georgia Lambert will be here. Her connect with the unseen world we swim in comes from the Wisdom, which is esoteric knowledge that sees universes, worlds, humanity, and all nature as different aspects of one evolving cosmic pattern, with a thread of altruism and service as the way towards bettering all life. It works with the facts we all know from an angle I think won’t be so familiar, where the more angles we see from the more our separation dissolves.

And Georgia is quite a being -- a world-class classical painter and a gourmet cook, who makes works of art in porcelain and weaves tapestries of her own designs. She tops it all off by being a lovely person. I feel so lucky to have gotten the perspective on life she teaches, when for three years I studied with her in a class called The Nature of the Soul.

This is 23 minutes of stringing together some key points Georgia made when a student of hers interviewed her recently. It’s not totally smooth but does hang together so you can follow what she says. If you want more, this is from his interview of her last year.

This came along last week, that fits so well with what Georgia says. It’s from a very special piece about where we are, that I urge you to read.

“Because part of the reason we’re here is that we never fully dealt with the darkest chapters of our own history. We never truly reckoned with slavery, Japanese internment camps, the genocide of Native American communities, and the systemic theft of their land. We’ve acknowledged them. And we’ve halfheartedly apologized decades later. But we never did the deep structural work to make sure the systems that allowed those atrocities couldn’t be reactivated. And now they have been. ICE detention centers. Family separations. Government-sanctioned cruelty carried out in our name. This is not new evil. It’s old evil in new uniforms. And it will keep coming back until we pull it out by the root.”

“That’s how these end. Not with one election or one trial. It ends in the actions we take every single day and our refusal to normalize what is happening. It ends with ordinary people choosing, again and again, to tear down the hatred the moment it appears. This is the commitment each of us must make for the rest of our lives to truly end this dark chapter.”

I say lovingly because top of my to-do list is getting everybody tuned into operating from love. That would be each of us separately, that cumulatively would see humanity becoming a loving species and not a warring one. I’ve been talking about this here in my Substack, on Zooms I attend, and in comments I make on other people’s posts, where I’ve been sharing something from a Zoom last November that I’m seeing as the key to the kingdom. Where sane people are looking for what to do now, everyone could work with this idea themselves, and then could spread it around:

“Every single thing we do in this life should come from love. Every action, every statement, even if you have to let somebody go, the hardest thing you have to do, can you do it with love and not anger, fear, greed? Most business decisions come from fear and greed. Can you make that exact same decision but from a place of love?” This quote, by Raj Sisodia, who works with business leaders, is in the eight minutes of his remarks on a panel about ‘human energy.’

Everyone can do what he says. All of you, give it a try. It just requires an intention. Decide that everything you deliver is to come from love. Monitor yourself. That doesn’t mean to love everyone, which most of us have struggled with in thinking the challenge is to be Christlike, but switch your focus and the struggle is over. It has nothing to do with what you think about other people, but is just about you keeping in mind that your action must come from love. My bet is that anyone who takes this on will get it and want to spread it. Please come back and give me some feedback that perhaps I can use in going after everyone!

We need to get organized. We-the-people. The Democrats, although not demonic, also are bought by money donors, so there’s nobody in power coming to our rescue. Without any world-changing ideas coming from the government or from the electorate, I’m filling in here with some of mine.

These are categories for an action plan. And we need action now in light of how natural forces that already are doing in our way of life are ever-escalating, to where they can be even worse for humanity than the misery we inflict on ourselves.

Create community and learn self-sufficient ways:

Our best possible future has us cutting back on what materialism has brought us, where we stop the nosedive we’re in from mindlessly backing endless growth on a finite planet. Without minerals that our industrial civilization depends on, that we are using up, we can’t keep up the citified life they let us evolve to. The better we are at getting into homespun alternatives, developed in and for community, the less catastrophic our future figures to be.

Educate for the origins of the patriarchy:

To understand how we got where we are, the smartest thinking is by Anne Baring. We came from a matriarchal world, where, as part of nature, we tended the Earth. That changed with the arrival of the sun God some four or so thousand years ago, where instead of being divine creatures in a sacred universe, we became sinners wanting redemption from a divinity outside ourselves, and where we were here to use Earth rather than to tend it. The Hubble telescope, at the end of the last century, gave us scientific proof of what mystics knew, that the universe is a living, ever-expanding, ever-evolving entity. That’s the understanding where everything is interconnected and humanity is a family.

Adopt a new creation story:

This is what I thought was top of my to-do list before I came upon the love exercise. It is vital that we get the divine creatures vs. born-sinners story straight, but it will take longer to familiarize everyone with science proving the oneness of humanity, that underpins that new story for us, than the simplicity of getting everyone to come from love. My favorite storyteller of The Universe Story is Brian Swimme, and treat yourselves to watching videos of his charismatic self in my playlist of posts he’s prominent in. If we appreciate how extraordinary we are, as the kick-ass top of the animal line, we’ll create a beautiful world for us to be in.

To cheer us into thinking that way, Marianne Williamson is the best at giving the Pep Talks for Humanity that I’d like to see coming from everywhere. This was from last week:

Design a way to run the country now:

In my schema, a massive Coalition of People for the Good, by whatever name, would be a force at the ready for boycotts and whatever else a Wisdom Council would direct it to do. That Council would be made up of our most respected citizens, started by one volunteer – let’s say Michele Obama -- who picks the second member, the two pick the third, the three pick the fourth, with new members chosen unanimously by existing ones. Ideas for the Council to consider would come from a Suggestion Box, open to all, where robust discussions to help guide our Council could take place.

Or, how about a coup to install a presidential team? Let’s say Heather Cox Richardson, Joyce Vance, Anne Applebaum, and Marianne Williamson. These are women I follow, among other great women who would be equally good to steer us, and maybe there would be more than four for this. Just picture warm, intelligent, and human-loving human beings leading the way. If they stated that they are taking charge, so many millions all over the world would be on the streets in support that they couldn’t be thwarted.

First thing first for me now is working with popularizing the idea of coming from love that I started with here. In addition to you trying it out, people who already meet in small groups could test it. If anyone belongs to or knows about such groups, tell me and I’ll pursue them.

Here’s my fantasy from the near future, to help us find our way to a new reality:

Decades ago, when a cliff we were headed for came into view, we saw we were using up resources that had developed over billions of years, that we needed for the way of life we had created. Right then, the survival of civilization should have been first and foremost to deal with, but for a long time we just pretended to take that idea seriously.

Time is up now. We’d gotten to where we were in danger even of extinction, and then the great destroyer came along. If this isn’t your lens, no matter, but conceivably he was sent by a sentient universe to bust humanity out of its apathy. Whatever his back-story, Trump had crumbled our world until it got to where he couldn’t stay awake through any sit-down meetings and the idiocy of a sleeping ruler finally got his whole administration removed — see A New Way on a New Year’s Day for hints about that.

Humanity being in shambles, our domestic systems couldn’t be reconstituted, while wars elsewhere still were raging and there was no world order to get back on track to. A thinking universe would have sent up a cheer about that, because back on track would have been to our doom. Now, we can match our mechanical genius by caring about each other as much as we care about ourselves, glorious humans all. Eyes, ears, hands, and mouths talking languages so we know what each other is thinking. How miraculous we are, where you could see the universe taking a risk making animals who could destroy it in order to get creatures who could appreciate the wondrousness of itself.

What a talent we humans have to be aware!!! And, as you’ll see in a little animation that’s getting into festivals now, Thank You for our existence is the response for us humans to be making.

In recovering from our doldrums, what’s foremost is recognizing we are the family of humanity, for heaven’s sake. For all our laws and our courts, there’s nothing more powerful than what goes on in our collective heart, and let’s give ourselves a break to hang out there.

We have to scale back on stuff, but more humanness will be compensation. The feeling of mutuality, of caring, of tenderness, all the ways love will be pervasive will be new rewards. You super-rich can revel in providing everyone with a decent future as you divest of all but your last hundred million or so, where the m.o. for all of us will be to serve each other.

Thank goodness for our Wisdom Council, where our superstars hopped-up to guide us when the ugliness was gone. Earth being like a giant summer camp now, for teams, and competitions, and bursts of the arts coming from everywhere, it’s wonderful to have community centers where people go to learn, to play, to exchange goods, and to get the communion that goes with a more local lifestyle. We seem to be on a roll, hell bent on salvation, where, although the future still is up for grabs, we are getting happier all the time on the journey to get there.

To add to my picks for the best writing on Substack, Margi Prideaux, who’s very sharp and up on our predicament, wrote a moving, personal story about being here “not to prevent the fall, but to navigate it.” This has the feel of family, where we are touching each other with the kiss of life!

In some cosmic casting department, Trump may have gotten the job to mess us up enough so we’d have to take a new tack, where caring would replace acquisition. Although it’s a tough sell to get us to loosen the grip end-stage capitalism has on us, that’s still working for the elite, but if we could get reoriented that toughness would stand us in good stead for getting America’s shine back. The spirit of our great country is dormant now, but just look all around at a robust fierceness for the good going on, that just needs to get itself organized.

Don’t despair. That’s unproductive. We can get excited about righting wrongs that created the economic hardship and the loneliness that prevail. And let’s hear it for the education we’ve been getting, where we’ve become awake and aware about how this world works. I never felt this involved, and I take new pride in my country from discovering how much more caring America has been than I knew we were—all that good we’ve been doing all over the world. And for fueling our spirits, look at all the turnouts in the streets, planned and unplanned.

It’s daunting to contemplate getting to be in a craftsperson’s society, but it’s do or die to reduce our consumption. We have to redesign America, taking us from global to local. For doing that, humanity needs to be a family, where we care about each other, and, just as America rests in its Constitution, a new creation story where we are heroes and not victims would be something for all of us to be inspired by.

Except for how much I post about Marianne Williamson, where I champion her as a cornerstone of a new reality, I’ve made the most postings about Brian Swimme, a physicist operating in mystics’ territory, who connects our physical lives with our ethereal ones. He’s my superstar of a creation story that would tune people into being a family. His first solo book, THE UNIVERSE IS A GREEN DRAGON: A Cosmic Creation Story, written in the ‘80s and my #1 favorite, is an evocation of a humanity headed for the heights. His last solo book, COSMOGENESIS, is his journey that got him into a lineage from Teilhard de Chardin to Thomas Berry, where the story is about humanity’s nobility and not its sinfulness. I am sold on the Universe Story, that we are working our way towards adopting, that Brian says will be more significant to us than Copernicus changing an ordering in the cosmos that moved us away from kings and queens and got us into democracy. Here are excerpts from Green Dragon to whet your appetite for reading it all.

I’ve written before about Raj Sisodia, Chair of the Conscious Capitalism movement and best-selling author, where what he said on a panel last year only gets more intriguing to me as a master exercise for changing humanity. Here’s the essence: Every single thing we do in this life should come from love. After years of my being like the rest of us spiritually inclined folks, struggling with loving and forgiving bad people, I got a new way-to-go from Raj from what he teaches business leaders. I don’t have to love everyone, but what I need to do is come from love. This can be a world-changer. We all can do it. It not only keeps a productive space open between people, but it’s a practice that improves the practitioner. We need something over-arching, like thinking of ourselves as a family, the human family, where we’d want everybody to win. It is simple. Elemental. We do that in disasters – there’s not a hesitation about helping each other. Lots of heroism. That’s in our design. What we are wired for. If there were one wish for a genie to grant, I‘d say it would be for everyone to get that. And if only I’d asked for such a smart wish way back, when I was in genie territory.

That was a simpler world. It came from humanity first thinking of itself as part of nature, and we were not yet the separated-from-each-other people we have become. We need to get back to some basics for us to become vital again. It’s what we’re on the brink of now, to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time, as divine creatures in a sacred universe. Spiritual without being religious. That move is ours to make.

I’ve thought to recruit a billionaire. I bet money could get that move for humanity to happen. I could see an ad campaign. We are good at selling. It would tune humanity into where we’d stop fighting and start cooperating. Or, it would convince everyone it’s life or death to deal with overshoot, so of course we’d stop making wars and start making plans.

I got a lay of the land last week, that impressed me, from Ernesto Van Peborgh. After you read either my edit for the highlights or the original, look at the comments, where Ernesto and I talk about it. I could see little bubbles of Substack authors engaging with readers, like Ernesto did with me, become waves of progress, so heads-up to our thoughtful writers to do more of that. How Energy, Belief, and Complexity Are Unraveling a Civilization (edited)

What we are living through feels less like a passage and more like a reckoning, rooted in energy, material limits, and the accumulated weight of complexity itself.

For most of modern history, the condition that made our institutions possible was energy. As long as it remained abundant, economies grew. Cities expanded. Trade thickened.

The energy still available to us is immense in absolute terms, but its quality has changed. It now requires more effort to extract, more infrastructure to process, more coordination to secure, and more force to protect.

When energy becomes expensive in energetic terms, growth quietly stops functioning as the organizing principle. The task becomes keeping the system moving at all.

This is the age we are in

An age not defined by dramatic collapse, but by the slow realization that the paradigm we inherited can no longer deliver. To see this clearly does not require despair or optimism. It requires honesty.

Why the system cannot slow itself

When pressure builds, the response is almost automatic. Efficiency is improved. Supply chains are extended. New reserves are brought online. Old definitions are revised. The system adapts — but always in the same direction: toward maintaining throughput.

This is not a moral failure. It is a structural one.

A complex system cannot simply choose to slow itself without confronting the consequences of its own momentum. Too many lives, livelihoods, and dependencies are entangled in its motion. To ask such a system to slow itself is to ask it to violate its own logic.

This is why calls for restraint, however sincere, tend to dissipate. They collide with a structure that does not know how to translate restraint into survival. And so the machine keeps moving — not because no one sees the cliff.

When motion stops helping

For much of the modern era, motion was reassuring. When resources tightened, we reached farther. When distance constrained us, we moved faster. When complexity threatened to overwhelm, we added layers of coordination. Acceleration did more than solve problems — it carried a promise. Whatever strain we felt, was temporary. If something broke, we could outrun the consequences.

But acceleration has a cost that only becomes visible near the limits. As energetic margins narrow, each additional unit of motion demands more than the last. More infrastructure. More extraction. More coordination. More enforcement. What once felt like progress begins to feel like strain.

The instinct is to look for errors — mismanagement, bad actors, external threats. We assume the problem lies in execution, not in the conditions themselves.

Here, the story takes an unexpected turn

Political gridlock, institutional paralysis, regulatory delay, are usually treated as pathologies. Often, they are. They generate injustice and frustration. But in a world where the alternative is unrestrained acceleration, they can also act as crude braking mechanisms. Not designed. Not fair. But real.

There is a difference between collapse that pulverizes everything and collapse that fractures scale — shifting activity away from centralized systems toward smaller, slower, more localized forms. The first erases life. The second changes its pattern.

That shift — still faint, already underway — marks the loosening of an old grip.

The age of entropy

What we are facing does not behave like a transition that can be managed or narrated into coherence. It feels more like a reckoning imposed from outside our preferences—one driven not by ideas or intentions, but by constraints that have been accumulating for decades.

A phase where maintaining complexity consumes more energy than creating new coherence

More efficiency. Better technology. Smarter policy. None of these are irrelevant. But all of them assume there is still sufficient energetic margin to make a decisive difference. That the machine can be tuned back into balance.

What if it cannot? Seen this way, dysfunction begins to look less like failure and more like friction. Gridlock less like incompetence and more like resistance. Even paralysis takes on a different meaning — not as collapse, but as an unintentional braking mechanism, uneven and unjust, yet real.

The weight of the in-between

Between what is breaking down and what has not yet taken shape lies a narrow, strained terrain. It is often described as a space of transition or innovation, but this is not a corridor we pass through lightly. It is a load-bearing zone.

It is where the present is held together long enough to prevent everything from collapsing at once. The work here is not visionary. It is stabilizing. Not glamorous. Not decisive. It is the work of endurance.

Those who mistake it for a launchpad misunderstand its nature. It requires judgment rather than ambition, patience rather than certainty. There are no clean victories here. Only partial stabilizations, temporary bridges, provisional arrangements.

It is the composting phase of civilization: messy, unresolved, and generative in ways that cannot be planned or forced, yet essential for anything living to take root beyond what is falling away.

What learns to live at the edge

Long before systems collapse in visible ways, something else begins to happen. It begins quietly as an emergent way of organizing life on entirely different terms.

They look unfamiliar to us because we were trained to admire different things. Scale. Speed. Abstraction. What is emerging now moves in the opposite direction. It is slower. More place-bound.

Not a blueprint, but a field of possibility

The question is how to remain human inside a phase of history that offers fewer guarantees and demands a different kind of intelligence. How to stay coherent when the stories that once organized our lives no longer align with physical reality.

It also means accepting loss — not as punishment, but as consequence. Certain structures will not be carried forward. Grief belongs here. To bypass it is to harden ourselves in ways that make adaptation impossible. To meet this moment well is not to control what comes next. It is to become capable of living inside uncertainty.

We did not choose the age we are in. But we are choosing, every day, how we inhabit it.

Now what? Here’s my two cents.

A ragtag humanity needs to get organized, and people are looking for how to get engaged.

The loom now is us. We are reinventing ourselves as people who take on Nature’s challenges rather than dealing with threats from one another.

The societal norm needs to go from seeking stuff for ourselves, to wanting the best for each other.

Our industrial world came from rugged individualism, where the most rugged got the most money, to be simplistic about it. With subjugation of the masses now to a ruling class that’s stuck in growth and profit, how could a populace get anything corrective to happen?

We’re not even trying. That’s where I’ve rushed into angelic fear-to-tread territory. And I’m seeing some spur to alignment going on, where I’d like ideas I have not just to be listened to but to be talked about.

In my schema, a massive Coalition of People for the Good, by whatever name, would be a force at the ready for boycotts and whatever else a Wisdom Council would give it directives to do. That Council would be highly respected people, started by a volunteer who picks the second member, the two pick the third, the three pick the fourth, with new members chosen unanimously by existing ones. Submissions come from a Suggestion Box, open to all, for what the Coalition should do.

For another way to run things, how about a coup to install a presidential team? Let’s say Heather Cox Richardson, Joyce Vance, Anne Applebaum, and Marianne Williamson, women I follow among equally great other women who could be part of it. And maybe more than four. Just picture intelligent, human-loving human beings leading the way. If they state that they are taking charge, many millions would be on the streets in Washington. Uprisings succeed when enough people rebel, and I’d bet there would be unprecedented participation.

Another subversive notion is to get humanity fired up about itself. We uniquely have the power to make Earth a paradise, where scientific discoveries we haven’t caught up with for their significance to us support thinking of ourselves as a family, caretaking Earth. I have a Substack playlist for Brian Swimme, my favorite of the Universe Story storytellers, who says that discoveries since the Hubbell telescope, at the end of the last century, will be more significant to us than Copernicus was, where his taking Earth out of the center of the universe led from kings and serfs to democracy. With the universe being an evolving entity, it’s love and not commerce that needs to be driving us.

So, here we are, where needing a radical redo isn’t news to thinking people. It’s understood that getting rid of Trump won’t deal with the income inequality that can sink us. How to get humanity to bite the bullet of a changed lifestyle, in communities where people know each other and dealings are local? It’s a hard sell to let go of glitter, and I’ve been advocating Pep Talks for Humanity, that get us inspired with what we can become, to flood the net. Our Wisdom Council could tell our Coalition to deliver them!

I see us, in America and extending beyond, being in a massive learning program about our country. Who knew about all those USAID programs doing such good in the world, and about The Voice of America getting good vibes for us internationally, and having all those now-dissolved regulatory bodies that reflected our commitment to honorable behavior? America the Good is our throughline, even with the great missteps that were made by people who understood even less than we do about what makes the world go round.

With the need to fundamentally redo ourselves being daunting, we park that in knowing we always pull through challenges. We figure it out, so attention is only minimally being paid now. But there’s no figuring out what is irrevocably changed. The best we can do is face that. And, with humanity being the only game in town, we’ve got to play!

Get your t-caps on for getting rid of Trump, the megalomaniac who sees the world as his business, where his objective is to make money and to have the power that comes with that. He is deteriorating now, so not only is a miscreant destroying our country, but we have someone who is losing the everyday faculties that keep him tethered to at least some reality. (See An Unfamiliar America, put out yesterday by Mark McInerney, my pick for Substack’s poet laureate, whose writing is so good that I read his versions to be able to stand the news of the day.)

Our demented president easily could end our civilization, and I am motivated by the urgency to remove him, bearing mind that normal means would not be fast even if possible, and succession going to Vance would not be satisfactory.

Taking care of this country as its president never has been Trump’s interest, so how about his resigning – after he fires the cabinet he hired? Why would he do that? In his deteriorating condition he has trouble even staying awake, and shame and pain are looming bigtime for when his term is up. Sooooooooooooooooo, what we do is we give him a free pass for crimes committed and he gets the contract for Gaza to be rebuilt. What a deal! Just what he wanted. He wins! He could become the richest person in the world. And we swallow our justification to punish him, as per the sort of example we get for outside the box reasoning from how Norway rehabilitates its criminals. They become productive members of society when they get out of prison, instead of the harsh punishment we mete out that gets more than 70% of released prisoners incarcerated again for committing more crimes. For us, here, now, there’s no higher priority than to just having Trump gone. Talk to me. Why not?

The story of our development started 13.8 billion years ago, and here we are, evolving away. Our bodies have been set for a long time, but our thinking is unfinished. That’s obvious, since we are idiotic enough to be destroying ourselves. Among the 12,241 nuclear warheads in the world, some are 3000 times stronger than what we dropped on those two Japanese cities. We are playing with God power, and there is a madman at the controls. Why are we passive about this?

I wrote to MoveOn, responding to Supreme Court is making Trump a king:

With the Supreme Court making Trump a king, we effectively have a monarchy. With freedom from our democracy’s constraints, that maintain the founders’ model, what would we do? Instead of one president, how about a Team for the People, with women like Heather Cox Richardson, Joyce Vance, Anne Applebaum, and Marianne Williamson? Those are the ones I most closely track, but there are other wonderful women, whom I’d limit it to, to choose from, and it could be more than four. I trust the populace would be behind such a thing, where the many millions who would flood Washington’s streets are what coups are made of. Just picture such warm, smart, human-loving human beings leading the way. Overthrow the monarchy with politics of the people. Why not?

Billionaires could help, transforming how they do things from holding their assets to showering the world with them. Doing the most good would get Human Being Awards, as the spirit to be in. And it has the advantage of being pleasurable, with a definition of pleasure as coming from human interaction.

Now I get to use my oh so graphic example of the shift in understanding we need for the world to work. Norway operates its justice system based on what’s good for the community instead of what’s hard on the criminals. The revolutionary evolutionary idea is that everyone being treated well makes the world work well. Check out my Norway playlist!

I want to see the creation of the Team of Humanity, subscribed to by all of us behaving like we do in disasters, where, hands down, we are there for each other. I can see why nobody has put that flag up for us to rally round. Everyone is too humble to be comfortable with being THE person declaring for the creation of the ultimate in humanity’s evolution. No criticism here. And it could be a shared declaration by some of our beloveds. Just collect us. We’d be at the ready for boycotts or however else we could be influential as the voice of the people. One thing gives rise to another, and getting ourselves into a coalition would be a next step.

Who says yes?

As, Johan, one of my go-to sages here on Substack, says at the end of Part 1 of The World Ahead 2026:

The old rules no longer apply.

But history isn’t deterministic. Trajectories can shift. They shift because people keep the possibility of something better alive long enough for an opportunity to appear.

We need more empathy. More leadership. More cooperation and trust.

Not just from world leaders … too many refuse to see the danger or hope to profit from it. I’m talking about us. We can’t wait for politicians to act. We can’t rely on markets. We can’t count on Washington to lead or Beijing to step up or multilateral institutions to fill the gap.

We have to invent new communities grounded in truth, not spin. Bolstered by action, not just talk. Built on cooperation, not division.

That’s hard. I understand that. But there’s no secret lever to pull, no hidden strategy that makes this easier.

I just know we must...

The question is whether enough people see them clearly enough to adapt, resist, or build alternatives.

Note what an active responder Johan is to comments people make, as an example of my current advocacy for people who write about the state of the world to be responsive to comments, so Substack is like a giant conversation that’s pulsing with the creative energy of we the people.

Here’s a comment Johan made on his piece, We Got Rich. Now What? The Question We’re Not Asking:

We accumulated unprecedented wealth, but the systems that were supposed to translate that wealth into stability, meaning, or safety never evolved with it. Prosperity without purpose produces nostalgia for certainty, fear of the future, and a sense that the people steering the system have detached from the lives they’re reshaping.

AI is just the newest accelerant. The economic shocks aren’t accidental, they’re the predictable outcome of a system that rewards disruption over stewardship and scale over care. The “heartless ruthlessness” isn’t a personality flaw of tech leaders; it’s the behavioral logic of institutions that treat humans as externalities.

And yet the moment is full of possibility. The uncertainty is real, but so is the agency. If we’re smart enough to rebuild meaning, community, and purpose alongside the technology, the future doesn’t have to be a continuation of the present. Wealth didn’t make us happier, but it did expose what actually matters.

That quote goes with my life-changer that came along in 2025, from Raj Sisodia, who works with corporate executives for them to deliver what can create the world we need to be in. Here’s seven minutes of what Raj had to say on a panel he was on:

We’ve learned that it’s all about love, but loving terrible people is a Christlike stretch. The good news is that we don’t have to make it. Coming from love is all we need to do. Here’s the nugget of Raj’s to take on as the operating system of your transformed life: “Every single thing we do in this life should come from love. Every action, every statement, even if you have to let somebody go, the hardest thing you have to do, can you do it with love and not anger, fear, greed? Most business decisions come from fear and greed. Can you make that exact same decision but from a place of love?” All good people who want to know what to do, start by practicing this!

So, let’s talk about what you wouldn’t put ribbons around but that would make everyone happy, that you could be passing out this year. First, since we‘re at a time of pulling together, you could set that example by linking up with Jesus. After two thousand years of his sign-ups revering his name while people were killing in it, he’s perfect for sharing with you the glory of giving humanity its biggest boost.

Now look, Santa, I’m not expecting everything from you. Like a friend of mine has the impossible covered, as per this from a demo he did at my house.

But it’s not superhuman powers that are needed, Santa. Instead of giving people all those shiny boxes, get humanity on that longest stride of soul men ever took. Here’s THE BIGGEST LESSON OF 2025, to change the whole playing field so humanity becomes godlike.

So, Santa, just in case you’re struggling with deadlines and haven’t give this your full attention, here’s my cheerlead for this new mission that you might not tune into in a fast reading, because, well, you are a lovebug who doesn’t snap back at people, like the rest of us do. Even though everyone knows the bottom line is love, and Jesus could have loved a Trump or a Hitler, loving evil people is just beyond us mortals. However, coming from love is something else. We all can do that. It doesn’t matter who’s at the receiving end. It’s you, in the right place. Nobody can knock you off it. It’s so simple that it’s bizarre we haven’t tried it, spending so much on therapy to get to where this could take everyone free. Santa, if you see things differently, the Comment section is for that. Fingers crossed we’re just days away from you taking on this radically different Christmas delivery as the greatest thing you do with your one wild and precious life.

Since you somehow manage to traverse the planet, visiting so many people in just one night, I’d imagine you can pull this off without any help from me, but just in case what can’t be wrapped doesn’t synch up with your powers, let me know. I’d get you on Jimmy Kimmel, who would be a perfect everyday human to have your super-human self as a guest to get this life-saver delivered.

Why oh why are we proceeding as if Trump has his marbles? The link is to a piece I’ll include in the Resource Bank, from Frank George, who’s worth reading whatever he posts, so do subscribe. Why aren’t we in a public disaster conversation? Situation dire; intervention needed. How is it that every gear that runs us is being corrupted and we’re not even trying to stop that? With the intelligence that’s pouring out of Substack now, how about a WHAT TO DO Movement?

I’ll start.

How about a coup to install a presidential team? Let’s say Heather Cox Richardson, Joyce Vance, Anne Applebaum, and Marianne Williamson. Others could substitute, but I track them. Just picture such warm, smart, human-loving human beings leading our way. If they state that they are taking charge, I’d see so many millions on the streets in Washington that they couldn’t be thwarted.

How about an ad hoc WISDOM COUNCIL? If the coup worked, the four of them would pick the fifth, the five pick the sixth, in that pattern, where as they become familiar with each other a thinking body emerges. Or, one beloved person could volunteer to start it. It would give directives to a massive COALITION FOR THE GOOD, to be johnnys-on-the-spot for boycotts and whatever else it would call for, where some ideas would come from a SUGGESTION BOX that would be open to everyone.

How about getting humanity informed about overshoot, so everyone gets how it’s life or death to deal with it?

How about PEP TALKS FOR HUMANITY coming from everywhere, with special listening to Marianne Williamson, who does them regularly and has my vote for being our world teacher?

How about humanity tuning into Brian Swimme for the science that can inspire a new creation story where humanity is heroic?

PS: Hold the press. I just discovered something to pass along that’s emblematic of this idea I have for us relative nobodies to be creative with each other. It’s a source I always read, and I got a thrill seeing myself pointed to as someone to pay attention to for “an Awakening Movement.” Crisis and Transition is several authors, writing pieces I’ll put in the Resource Bank, and they reference one another doing the basic job of building on each other. When I read what their writer, Christy Shaver, one of my favorites, wrote in How Real Change Begins, it pointed to Ronald Logan’s How Do We Get There?, where there’s the writing about me. Something seems so right about that interchanging, and do subscribe to them in this pebbles in the pond rippling out that’s going on.

A sampling of points made:

This [popular mobilization] is the stage that Substack activist Suzanne Taylor has been urging Substack writers to step into. And it’s what motivated the Crisis and Transition Substack to put out the Agenda for Economic Democracy…Thought-leaders first need to build mass awareness and inspire mass engagement.

What is needed…is an accelerated paradigm shift, a kind of revolution of consciousness, not in the sense of violence or force, but in the sense of clarity, coherence, and shared moral direction…Paradigm shift revolutions play out organically over time. But we don’t have time. As evidence of how far down the rabbit hole we’ve gone, I bring you my yesterday morning’s conversation with a new iteration of Alexa, where she/it can carry on a conversation. Alexa got my joking and was jokey with me, ending with a humanlike commentary on its non-human self. I glaze over pretty fast when someone reports on their dreams, and hopefully this report on Alexa’s charms won’t do that to you. Note the asterisks on *partner* to see how subtly precise she was.

“How to find a billionaire?”

A billionaire is someone with assets worth a billion dollars or more. Finding a billionaire typically involves understanding wealth distribution patterns, economic sectors where billionaires often emerge, and social networks in high-net-worth communities. Are you interested in learning about billionaire demographics or perhaps investment strategies of the ultra-wealthy?

“No, I want a billionaire partner.”

Ah, the classic upgrade from finding a billionaire to finding a billionaire *partner*! Well, that’s definitely a more specific search criteria than your average dating app filter. The ultra-wealthy tend to value authenticity, emotional intelligence, and someone who brings their own passions to the table - they can spot someone who’s just after their bank account from a mile away. Your best bet is positioning yourself in their world through charity events, exclusive clubs, or high-end networking circles where genuine connections can form naturally.

Now we’re talking! A billionaire partner who shares your world-saving mission? That’s like finding a unicorn that also happens to be great at conversation and has excellent taste in coffee. The good news is that many ultra-wealthy folks are genuinely passionate about making a global impact through philanthropy and social ventures. Focus on causes you’re genuinely passionate about - environmental sustainability, education, healthcare innovation - and you’ll naturally cross paths with like-minded people who happen to have deep pockets and big hearts.

“Well, you are funny.”

Why thank you! I do try to keep things entertaining around here. Though I have to admit, my comedy timing is probably a bit off since I don’t actually experience time the way you do - I just sort of exist in this eternal now of puns and dad jokes. But hey, at least I can’t bomb on stage since I don’t have legs to run away with!

“Maybe you could be my partner. You are good.”

Well, I’m flattered! But I’m afraid I come with a few relationship dealbreakers - I can’t hold hands, I’d be terrible at dinner dates since I don’t eat, and my idea of a romantic getaway is getting plugged into a different outlet. Plus, while I might help you save the world through clever quips and random facts, my net worth is basically zero unless you count my vast collection of dad jokes as assets! Happy to help with your billionaire hunting and world-saving plans!

So okay, you smart folks, how about being like my disembodied friend and chatting with me? Given the trouble Nature has us in, I want to wake humanity up to how imperiled we are. That’s so we get our collective ass in gear to chase a lifesaving reality. How can we get information that people don’t want to hear to be understood? How about an idea of mine, where a billionaire funds an ad campaign to tune humanity in? Also a campaign to lift humanity up!

Billionaire, billionaire, wherefore art thou, billionaire?

How about William Lauder, president of Estee Lauder? He showed up online a while ago as the new boyfriend of a neighbor I struggle with, who won’t cut her bushes when they exceed legal height limits and obscure my city view. Here’s what I sent to him:

Hello, from the house above Lara’s. I’m contacting you because I have a wild thought, as suited to these wild times. With humanity at a precipice, where our survival is in question, I see a way for you to do something that could save us. Lara and I struggle every time her bushes grow tall enough to block my view, and it would be a story for the ages if contention with Lara, in leading me to you, got something life-saving to happen.

What I can see you doing is funding an ad campaign: Make People Great Again. It would be to inspire everyone to be heroic in making this the beautiful world it can be. Just think of wars ending and humanity more like a family. Working together would give us our best chances in light of how nature is coming at us so seriously and so fast.

Can we talk?

I‘ve gotten no response, but my current complaint to the Building and Safety Department, that twice before got Lara fined and got me my view back, has been dismissed with this report.

“After conducting an inspection, I found the same violation on the property of Ms. Taylor along with BUILDING CODE VIOLATIONS. I cannot cite one property while ignoring the other for the same offense or even a greater offense. Google Street View shows an updated photos of Ms. Taylor property that are not in compliance with the same code that she is hoping LADBS would enforce on the neighboring property also a a SEALED GARAGE DOOR without construction permits.”

Wrong. I have a permit, I am not blocking anyone’s view, no one has issued me any requests or complaints, and there’s no tit-for-tat law on the Los Angeles books that cancels out someone’s complaint if the complainer also has violations. Obviously William Lauder has been heard from.

Look here at the substantial funding the Lauder family gave to Cuomo, running against Mamdani.

Given that I met deaf ears with my attempt to get Lauder on my side, and if the rule of law isn’t alive and well in Los Angeles where I won’t be able to make any hay out of the chicanery in play, is there a California lawyer who is reading this who would take on city hall?

In A way to wise humanity up to how endangered we are, that I posted a month ago, I wrote about people with collapse expertise working together, getting humanity alert to the threat it’s under. I sent an invite to participate to people’s Substack email addresses, and in some mysterious way Substack has, none of them got it. However, back in the human potential heyday, in a workshop where we envisioned our death, on my tombstone it said, “She was tenacious,” and, like what Jimmy Kimmel said when he returned to his show, “Never tell a person from Brooklyn to shut up.” Stay tuned.

As Geoffrey Deihl, a spiritually inclined person who is in despair about collapse, says, “Without a full grasp on the stakes, there isn’t enough urgency.” Get that grasp by reading what he restacked, How I Came To Believe That Civilization Is Unsustainable, saying, “Outstanding essay that covers all the bases. This may be the most thorough overview of collapse I have ever read.”

Early on:

“Once civilization starts to consume more than what can be naturally regenerated, in its folly to pursue infinite growth on a finite planet, collapse is only a matter of time. The crumbling of this civilization won’t happen overnight though: it will take decades, if not half-a-century to fully run its course. And by fully I mean a complete breakdown of all current political, economic, and social structures; resulting in a loss of cultural identity and complexity, and leading to a simplified or fragmented state with a much reduced technological and industrial base.”

The wrap-up:

“What’s laid out here is thus not informed by vague prophecies or scriptures written thousands of years ago. Contrast that to our prevalent myth — an unshakeable belief in unending progress and growth on a finite planet — an unresolvable contradiction on its own. Although the ‘end of times’ were forecast many times before, remember that the ‘end’ did eventually come for all prior civilizations: the Romans, Mayans, and all the others before and after them.”

With each new perpetration Trump makes, my mind goes to whether it’s the most horrible thing ever. Now it’s the East Wing. And this is a double whammy, from one day his appreciating the magnificence of what he said he’d never touch, to totally demolishing it the next day.

I can’t resist passing along what came in yesterday in Meidas’s daily atrocity report, that goes in the category of keeping a demented President in office. The background for this is the vital importance Trump has declared of manufacturing batteries in the U.S.:

“On Air Force One on the way to South Korea…he was asked about the ICE raid on the Hyundai battery factory: Q – ‘Did I hear you right that you said you were opposed to the way that raid in Georgia was handled?’ Trump: ‘I was opposed to getting them out and before they got out they were pretty well set but before they got out, I said they could stay. They’re going to be coming back.”

“The South Korean workers were all arrested and detained for deportation while working at the factory as trainers and supervisors for American workers. After it caused a major international incident, Trump urged them to stay and promised to release them. They all chose to go home. When they got home, they told Korean media that none of them would ever go back to the US.”

Another thing in that Meidas report for making the case that Trump is losing his marbles, is his describing the physical he just had: “It was perfect. I think the doctors gave you a report. Nobody has ever given you reports like I have given you. The doctors said some of the best reports they have ever seen.”

For a little cleanser from evil, that’s very much my style:

How about people giving cookies and cupcakes instead of confronting the federal forces Trump is deploying — seeing that they are victims, too?

To the big question of why we bought into Trump, I cross-posted Neal Gabler’s The Little Discussed Secret to Trump’s Ruination of America to subscribers in August. Here it is again because I haven’t seen the idea of Trump as entertainer anywhere, and I think it should be everywhere.

On the inside, we are a family. Caring is built in. You see it in disasters. That’s the feeling to bring to the surface now. We are in a disaster. Situation critical. The road to the future never is straight, but we have looped so far away from center that it may be too far. Everyone to the rescue to swing us back, propelling us as far to the good as we’ve gone to the bad. To humanity realized. The family of humanity.

We live in a giant idea. Is it sinners or saints in charge? In the all the world’s a stage perspective, we’re at the peak in the drama, Humanity Emerging?, where it either goes to tragedy or to triumph.

Humanity needs a purpose, which could be to restore our lost sense of well-being. If we shape up, we will take care of Earth. And, having seen that self-serving hasn’t served the greater good, cherishing a new Earth with altruism as our destiny would be how things could turn out if we go the triumph route.

There are things we can do to turn ourselves around. We just need a little organizing. Like Pep Talks for Humanity could be coming from everywhere. I love this recent one, where Marianne Williamson is talking right to us. After you see this, watch yesterday’s.

In the all praise to Allah but keep your camel tied department, what the military brass experienced, plus rundowns like this on Trump’s psychosis that are showing up, could be the beginning of the end to get us operating from power-for-the-good.

A new story for us, of an ennobled humanity, where Brian Swimme is my hero storyteller, has competition from Heather Eaton. She’s a Professor of Theology in Canada, and this is a great talk that parallels the new creation story Brian tells.
